Winnipeg, Manitoba • June 10, 2014: Fresh from an upset victory in Thunder Bay 2 -1 on Friday The St. Louis Lions rolled into Winnipeg with all the confidence a win against the defending Heartland Division Champs would bring……Their size and aerial dominance was in full view for the fans in attendance……This was in play on their first goal as a corner kick sent into the box was volleyed in by Lee Woolmore in the 21st minute to make it 1-0…But the never say die style of WSA resulted in a free kick just outside the Lions Box and Moses Danto once again came to play and put a PERFECT free kick into the top corner to even it up at 1-1 in the 28 minute……Both teams exchanged chances but could not convert until in extra time of the first half when Jordan Roberts of St Louis scored to make it 2-1 just before the whistle…..This was very deflating for all concerned as they went into the intermission down 2 – 1……The second half WSA came out firing on all cylinders and were rewarded with a free kick just outside the St. Louis box taken by Aaron Hidalgo-Mazzie……A perfect kick that the goalie could not handle and the rebound came out to Moses Danto who calmly put it in the back of the net to make  it 2-2…..the fatigue of 4 games in 8 days seem to take its toll on the WSA boys as St. Louis used their size and physicality to wear down the boys and scored the go ahead goal in the 68 minute….This seemed to put the boys on their heels but they kept battling for the equalizer that never came and then finally the insurance goal  by St. Louis was scored in the 90th minute to make it 4 – 2……This gives WSA 2 wins 3 Losses and 2 Ties for a total of 8 Points in the 2014 PDL season……..WSA has some time to lick their wounds as they are off now till the 19th when they venture down Highway 1 to Thunder Bay and meet the Chill who have started the season 2-2 for games on the 20th and 21st…..WSA are home again against the Des Moines Menace on July 5 and 6……The menace are playing very good soccer this year and are undefeated ….Hope to see everyone on July 5 and 6 at the Waverly Soccer at 7:00 PM.
